The for[me]legami line is in the running for the Compasso d’Oro 2020, the oldest and most influential international design award. The project designed and developed by for[me]moak together with Andrea Branciforti was included in the category “Design for living” of the prestigious publication ADI Design Index 2018 – a collection of most excellent Italian design. On October 15th, the projects in the running for the award were presented during an exhibition at the National Science and Technology Museum “Leonardo da Vinci” in Milan, where they will be exhibited until November 19th and then moved to Rome.

The roads of the Compasso d’Oro

Furthermore, the for[me]Legami collection was included in the Milanese circuit Le Vie del Compasso d’Oro (The Roads of the Golden Compass). Such itinerary within the capital of fashion and design offers a direct experience of historical and contemporary places linked to the prestigious Compasso D’Oro Award. The collection will be hosted until January 15th 2019 at Bottone Cannoli in via Alessandro Volta 8. Central idea of the initiative is to show the products that have been awarded, mentioned or selected for the ADI Compasso d’Oro Award from the first edition in 1954 up to the present day.  The aim: allowing the general public to delve into and purchase high quality design.

The for[me]legami project

The story of for[me]legami makes a step back in time. It revives some ancient holders, which were traditionally used in farming in our region, and turns them into items with innovative design and versatile use. The wheat container – used to calculate the amount of products to be packed – becomes a stackable plate or centrepiece. Its form and size recalls those used in ancient times and if more elements are piled up, one gets the size of the old holder. The handles at the edges are typical of Moak. They are placed opposite each other and recall the old bowls used in the Greek period, which thanks to the inverted grips could be used in manifold ways. In the Legami dish, the handles also become an opportunity to turn the use of them ironic and versatile, seen as elements of reference and identity of the brand.

The collection

The for[me]legami collection is available in two sizes and seven different decorations, and features a particular form and versatility. The fact that it is stackable facilitates the use of the available space on the table, while its manifold functions (centrepiece, tray, container or pocket emptier) turn it into a polyhedral item. The inspiration for the designs of the seven decorations were  taken from the typical fabric drawings of the countries coffee was imported from: Java, Mexico, Cameroon, Vietnam and Indonesia. Five distant places which Moak is connected to; five stages of a long journey where different cultures intertwine: just like the decoration signs on the various fabric wefts.
